With many records: split them into pages, with page numbers and Previous and Next to move between them.
When to use it
- Finding a specific record, keeping your place or knowing the total, as in search results and back-office lists
- People come back to the same page, so the address should point to a page number
When not to
- Browsing content, where each page change interrupts: use infinite scroll
- Only one or two pages of data: just list everything
What to tell an AI tool
Use pagination at the bottom of the list (Previous, page numbers, Next) with 20 records per page and the total count shown, and clearly mark the current page.
